January and February are often referred to as the bleakest months of the year.
It’s cold, Christmas and the novelty of what was is a distance memory.
Resolutions have been made and possibly already broken!
The opportunity for change and setting goals in January seem so important then once they have been abandoned the feelings of low self worth and disappointment floods into every pore , setting us up for low moods and turning our mindset into a place of constant recurring negative thoughts .
Why? Why as human beings do we allow this pattern of behaviour and ultimately beat ourselves up?
In order to centre our feelings , emotions , mind body and spirit
We need to be open for change to occur .
A good place to start is giving yourself permission for some you time every day , even if it’s just five minutes.
Find a comfortable place to sit maybe on a cushion or a high back chair closing down the eyes and allowing the body to relax .
Scan from the very crown of your head all the way down to the very tips of your toes, using a deep inhalation and exhalation to calm the nervous system and allow your body to totally be at ease.
Using all of the wonderful senses we were given at birth tune in to the world around you and listen for three different sounds.
State what you hear.
Touch the objects around your space and think about what they feel like..
Inhale deeply and try to identify the smells around …
Here are some more helpful and actionable tips you can try
the next time you need to centre
1. Breathe…Inhale 4 counts exhale 4 counts ( repeat 10 times)
2. Admit that you're anxious or angry maybe experiencing envy or fear feel the emotion..
3. Challenge your thoughts.
4. Release the feeling by sitting with it acknowledging it.
5. Visualise yourself calm. ...
6. Listen to music.
7. Change your focus
8. Move your body , dance , yoga walk or whatever lights you up
9. Journal
10. Stand barefoot in nature and ground into the earth
